- Of the 495 motorcyclists killed, 86% of them were wearing helmets.
- Of the 495 motorcyclists killed, 30% of them had a blood alcohol concentration of .01 or more.
- The most recent data from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) shows that over 10,000 people were injured in 2006.
- According to the CHP, the age group with the highest number of motorcycle injures are people between the ages of 15 and 24 with 2,381 injuries and 82 deaths, followed by people ages 25-44 with 2,364 injuries and 86 deaths.
- According to the CHP, even though only 2.1% of registered vehicles are motorcycles, motorcyclists account for 9.4% of all traffic fatalities in California.

According to the most recent data available from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:
- 5,154 motorcyclists were killed in 2007. This is a 7% increase from the 4,837 motorcyclists who were killed in 2006.
- 103,000 motorcyclists were injured in 2007. In 2006 there were 88,000 motorcycle injuries.
- Per vehicle mile traveled, it is estimated that motorcycle riders are 35 times more likely to die in a vehicle crash than car passengers.
- Per vehicle mile traveled, it is estimated that motorcycle riders are 8 times more likely to be injured in a vehicle crash than car passengers.
- Per registered vehicle, the fatality rate for motorcyclists was 5.5 times the fatality rate for car passengers in 2006. The injury rate for motorcyclist was 1.2 times the injury rate for car passengers.
- In 2007, motorcyclists accounted for 13% of the total traffic fatalities, 14% of all occupant fatalities, and 4% of all occupant injuries.
- Motorcycles are more likely to be involved in a fatal collision with a fixed object than any other vehicle.
- In 2007, there were more motorcycle riders involved in a fatal collision with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or more than any other type of motor vehicle driver.
- Helmets are estimated to be 37% effective in preventing fatal injuries to motorcyclists. The NHTSA estimates that helmets saved 1,784 motorcyclists’ lives in 2007.
